*You can run against an incumbent even if there is a Precinct Committeeman in that precinct. Some committeemen run again, some do not. If there is an incumbent and you run against them if you campaign well enough you can win.
**In a vacant precinct you should be unopposed so you will win. All the votes you acquire can be voted toward your favorite candidate on the ballot IE governors office. It is a good idea to get extra signatures to make sure you have plenty.
First thing you want to get the necessary paper work at Macon County Clerks office. Ask for petitions and paperwork to run for Republican Precinct Committeeman. Also ask for your precinct walking list by your precinct number Example: Decatur 34. THESE WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL JANUARY OF 2022.
MAKE SURE YOU READ EVERYTHING VERY CAREFULLY SO YOU FILL IT OUT CORRECTLY. IF YOU FILL IT OUT WRONG YOU WILL HAVE TO START OVER.
NOTE: PART OF YOUR PAPER WORK MUST BE FILLED OUT IN FRONT OF A NOTARY AND NOTARIZED.
Use the walking list so you will know what home to visit to ask for signatures to go on your petition. Please after you finish with these make sure you dispose of them properly to guard peoples privacy.
SIGNATURES MUST be proper names, not nick names.
Example: Ronald Reagan ......... NOT Ronnie Reagan or R W Reagan.
Ask them to PRINT AND SIGN the petition like they signed their voter registration card.
It may take a couple days to get your signatures so plan ahead, and it's a good idea to get a few extra signatures.
Make sure you get your paper work Notarized in plenty of time to meet the deadline. With the Democrats changing the map, it may be January 2022 before you can get your petitions and start to get your signatures in time to be on the ballot in the 2022 election.
DO NOT get signatures BEFORE you are supposed to do so. Make sure you follow all the rules and fill out your forms properly. If you are unsure, there are other Precinct Committeemen that will be happy to help. ASK.
Once your paperwork is filed and approved you will be on the ballot for the primary.
Make absolutely sure you will do the job before you commit to it. You may have 1-3 meetings a year. It is a good idea to talk to your voters in your area either by letter or phone. Remind them to vote in the primary and be prepared to answer questions about candidates. If you don't know refer them to websites or Facebook pages. You may never get any questions. It's very rare anyone ever calls about anything other than signs.
The more you put into the job the more votes you will get. It's very flexible, you can set the time you work with the exception of a meeting or two yearly and of course you must meet the deadlines for your paper work.
